The Calgary Herald illustrates that Calgary’s low population density as well as high carbon dioxide rates almost earned the city a near-fail grade in the GreenApple Canada 2007 Ranking Report. The article discusses some of the improvements that have been implemented to lower emissions but also indicates that further steps have to be taken in order to create a more environmentally friendly transportation system.
The Montreal Gazette focuses on the GreenApple Report funded by the Appleton Charitable Foundation. The article explains why some cities did extremely poorly in the report while others performed rather well. Barry Appleton illustrates that some cities did not achieve their desired targets because they failed to implement their policies. On the other hand, cities like Vancouver and Victoria did well because the municipal governments encouraged a more environmentally friendly policy.
The Vancouver Board of Trade discusses Vancouver’s progressive policy in cutting back fuel emissions. The GreenApple Report illustrates that Vancouver performed extremely well because the city started to convert their cabs to hybrid vehicles.
